First Impressions

You can’t judge a book by its cover, but guess what? People do it anyway. Your home’s front steps, door and front exterior is where the first impression happens.

While the inside of your house may be a chaotic disaster of moving boxes, toys or even under construction - you have the power to trick them all, with a little curb appeal makeover.

Growing up with a single mom, we moved A LOT and when I say a lot, I  mean over 30 times (and I am only 42, hard to believe - I know).  Every place we rented, whether a tiny beach cottage or a cool apartment, my mom always made sure it was as pretty on the outside as it was on the inside. Whether it was a small planter with colorful flowers or a fresh coat of paint on the trim and front door. It made a difference. She prided herself on caring for our homes, even rustic old houses that she did not own. She would make it ours by getting creative and sharing her love for decor and home design.

Refreshing your home’s exterior does not have to be a huge project. But taking the time to give it the attention it deserves will help boost that first impression - to visitors, neighbors and even potential buyers, if you are selling.

Here are my three favorite ways to instantly boost your curb appeal -

  1. Paint the door! Don’t be afraid of color. New England homes are typically constructed in more neutral tones - grays, white, natural, etc… so why not add a Pop of Color (see what I did there?) to the front door

  2. Planters. So simple, so easy and a very inexpensive way to spruce up those front steps. You can go high and invest in some solid iron urns, or get a bargain anywhere from Wayfair to Homegoods - fill with annuals and tah-dah, instant color.

  3. Keep it seasonal and know when to let it go. I am looking at you Karen….. When the calendar flips over to a new year, the decorations come down. Don’t leave the garland and wreath up till every damn needle sheds off. And it's great that the kids carved pumpkins… but do not let them sit and rot till December.

Not sure what color to paint the door? Overwhelmed by seasonal planters? We can get it done for you, start to finish.

Heck - we can come at the start of each season, to make sure your curb appeal is on point. Check out our seasonal refresh package or just simply schedule an appointment, so we can achieve exactly what you need.

xoxo
